A Study of a Gesture

A Study of a Gesture begins with the repeated action of tying and untying the head. Thread becomes line; pressure becomes mark; the body becomes both surface and instrument. The work stays with a small action until it shifts into restraint, memory and drawing. Nothing is resolved: the gesture tightens, loosens and disappears, leaving only a temporary trace. I am interested in what the body can register before it becomes language.
