About
Rupa Paul is a Kolkata-born visual artist working between New Delhi and Kolkata, with an ongoing engagement with Ladakh. Trained at the Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata, her practice moves through drawing, moving image, photography, performative gesture, archive and site-responsive installation.
Rather than beginning with a fixed medium, Paul begins with an unresolved question — a gesture, a person, an inherited fragment, a landscape, or a trace whose meaning continues to shift. Her work follows how memory passes through bodies, materials and places, and how acts of preservation can also transform what they attempt to hold.
Her ongoing project, BAPI: What Remains Before Disappearing, includes the Foundation Project titled BAPI: An Archaeology of Design Memory. This Foundation Project is implemented by India Foundation for the Arts (IFA), under the Arts Practice – Explorations Programme, 2026.
